Salt Lake City Through and Through

I asked a guy on a date for tonight to go down to BYU and see the Carl Bloch exhibit. Unfortunately, I did not check first to see if there were actually tickets available for later tonight. Oops! I like to go to movies but I also want to do something fun where we can talk and get to know each other.
I have been looking on the internet to try and find something fun to do, but February seems lacking in fun. At least I am struggling to find something that isn't an exorbitant amount of money or already booked.
So my new goal is to find fun, unique, interesting things to do or see in SLC and surrounding areas. This will be a long term thing. I can't just see everything all at once. Any suggestions of things I should do, places to see, or hidden treasures of SLC, please let me know. It can also be of other places in Utah as well. We'll see how this goes.

  1. okay, just off the top of my head:
The rock at the great salt lake (i think it is called black rock)... climb it.. :)
Red Butte Gardens (there are a couple of free days in the year too, and different activities)
The church history museum, downtown slc
    tracy aviary
Mrs Cavanaugh's Chocolates does tours of their factory, really simple, but a movie about chocolate is show and who can beat a movie about chocolate?!?!
Ogden has this place where you can FLY (I think it is expensive)
I also heard rumor of a ice climbing place being built in Ogden
    canoe the jordan river
bike along the great salt lake (or the jordan parkway)
    jetski at jordenelle state park
in October Black Island Farms (slides, corn maze, corn shoots, and a lot of kid stuff... sorry, I have kids. :))
the little rides at liberty park
    hike ensign peak
actually, most of what I love to DO in utah is outdoors and has to do with hiking haha, if you want a good hike, then call me. :)

I would love to hit the ATV trails here near my house (5 mile pass).
snowbird has a ton of fun stuff, especially in the summer, ride the tram up and hike down, or ride the lift up and hike down, or hike up and ride down, whatever. so fun!

the color festival is coming up soon. :)

I get a magazine at work called familyfun.com and it lists things to do for families each month, but it would be a great resource just to get ideas... I'll look and call you if there is anything interesting for March.

Also, I do believe meetup.com is a cool resource for finding things to do with people who have common interests, say for example hiking. :) gaming :) or whatever :)

One last thing... the small towns around SLC really seem to have a good thing going. Tooele for example has Friday's on Vine, free concerts in the park--so cool! Benson Grits Mill usually does a play (outdoors) each year, I think this is the first year they aren't. Near here there is the Stansbury Observatory, I can tell you when they are having Star Parties. :) The Davis County Fair is the best I've ever been to!

Wow, it sure sounds like I have a life... I don't, but I would if I had any time. :)

  2. there's also the gallivan center, ice skating, if the rink is still open. and in the summer there's the outdoor concerts at the gallivan, too. or there's olympic park in park city, or just going to park city (main street) in general :) park city mountain resort is fun, they've got the alpine slide and olympic park has a really steep zip line! both fun!
